Has it really been 40 years? I don't feel like I'm pushing 60. :-)

After college and living in Denmark, France and Japan, I moved to Brooklyn in 1984 for what I assumed would be a couple of years -- and I never left! I only ever had three career ambitions: to become a novelist (instead I write books and articles on legal issues); an English professor (instead I became a law professor); or a public interest lawyer (instead I ended up in private practice, but with an active pro bono practice representing low-income immigrants). I have no complaints and am happy in my career, with no plans to retire any time soon.

My first husband and I divorced in 1997. In 1999, I started dating Bill, and we've been together in one way or another ever since, finally marrying just last year! My lovely 26-year-old daughter, Rachel, lives in San Francisco, is engaged to a wonderful guy, and has just started a Master's of Architecture program at UC Berkeley. My lovely 26-year-old stepdaughter, Emma, lives in New York and works at a Madison Avenue PR firm. They're both doing great and we're so proud of them both.
